I had dyed my hair a strawberry blonde at home, and it came out fine, though it looked nothing like the results on the box. So, I decided to go to the salon to let them take care of my hair. I asked the girl for my same color, just with a little more red, so it doesn't fade as easily. Well, my hair looks like a bright auburn, which is NOT what I wanted at all. I wanted a subtle change, and now my hair doesn't even match my eyebrows. I called and asked for them to fix it, so now I have an appointment tomorrow. The girl that did my hair suggested putting brown in my hair, but I don't want brown hair, or darker hair to get rid of the red. I want the color she deposited in my hair removed with a color remover or soap cap...somehow. I want my hair back to how it was before. What should I tell her to do tomorrow, seeing as she seemed set on dying my hair brown? My hair WAS a natural reddish blonde, and is now VERY UN-NATURAL bright auburn.
What Should I Do to Lighten my Red Hair?
I have naturally very Auburn hair which sounds like what the salon dyed yours to be. I really wanted to lighten mine up for the summer but I LOVE the red in my hair so I wanted to lighten it up but keep the red which sounds like what you are looking for. I went to my hairdresser and she added Blonde (warm blonde, not platnum) highlights all over my head. We didn't even have to add more red because the warm blonde really brought out the red but REALLY lightened up my hair too. It was cheaper than dying my whole head and I have had TONS of compliments from random people (even men) on the color. I think I have pictures taken before and after if you need them. It gave my hair a whole new color without all the mess of stripping the color and redying.
What kind of Box dye did you use? My mom dyes hers red out of a box about every 2 weeks so if you know the kind and color you used I might be able to help more.
What Should I Do to Lighten my Red Hair?
Red hair fades to blonde easily in the sun. Just go spend a little time in the sun and you will have it lighter. Don't let her dye your hair again. It is too soon. If you want to really lighten it quickly, go buy some Prell shampoo. That is the harshest shampoo you can buy. Wash it a few tiimes with Prell and then condition. That should help, too.
