Is dying red hair always a bad idea?

I have strawberry blonde hair, and i'd like to dye it a little bit darker. I've heard that it's not always a good idea to try to dye red hair, but is there any way that it might work?

Yes it's fine! The fact that you want to go darker makes it easier. A dark colour can easily go onto strawberry blonde hair.

If you want it to be lighter, just bleach it first before dying it the colour you want. (use lots of conditioner.)

My hair is a darker red and I don't usually have any problems dying! Try an Medium auburn shade. It is deep enough that you won't end up with orange red, while still not making you look washed out.

PS: I don't suggest using Feria. Their shades don't seem to work well on my hair shade...so maybe it's just a red hair thing.

get it done profesionally ... but if you have strawberry hair .... i think its very pretty and if it's kept in good shape then I love it....

I have red hair as well, and I must recommend that you go to a professional salon to get your hiar dyed. To make it darker red, they'll put in brown lowlights, but won't leave it in as long. It'll still be red, just darker. Red hair is difficult, depending on the color you're trying to change it to.

Are you a risk taker?

LoL. Have fun!!

If worse comes to worse... your hair will grow back again.

my hair is red and I all was get complements I think its your hair do what you want.

If you have hair such a beautiful natural color, I wouldn't mess with it. Having a lot of red hair pigment makes it harder to get the color you want. Some people think dye isn't good for us, that it can cause cancer. I don't know. I've dyed my hair for years but stopped a few months ago.

If you really want to try, try it with a non-permanent rinse first,

and consult the hair dye companies. They have phone numbers on the boxes.

But usually, the color you were born with is the color that best suits your skin complexion and makes you look most beautiful.

Instead of changing your hair color, work with a make-up consultant and play with make-up colors to give you different looks, that still make you look beautiful.
